My model Erica and I went to check out a new location, Elfin Forest, for a creative portrait session, and I
can say right now that that place is BEAUTIFUL! If you're in the area, you should definitely check it out.
We've just had a heavy rain that caused the creek to overflow making for a cold and moody landscape. We
also took a few photos in the forest, which I edited in post to look more warm and inviting!
Tip: Notice how often I ask my model to look away from the camera. This works especially well when
you're working with a subject who is not a model and isn't comfortable looking straight into your lens. You
can still create powerful imagery by having your subject play with their hair, interact with an aspect of
their surroundings, or look pensively into the sky. You can start with this method, and then gradually move
to the standard portraits once your subject feels more comfortable.
The sun snuck behind the mountain while we were photographing by the creek, so it was rather dark when we returned. I was able to get this next image before we left for the day, and decided to turn it into a composite!
Thank you for checking out my blog!
